On This Day, 13-January 1944 We Honor a Fallen Hero
Emmett Bernard Haake was born 1-7-1923, He lived at 1523 Waverly St Charles MO. Emmett attended nearby St. Charles High School. Before entering the Navy, Emmett worked at American Car and Foundry (ACF) in St. Charles. ACF was an important equipment supplier during both world wars.
Emmett enlisted 11-23-1942. He was a Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class in the Navy. He was wounded 1-1-44 and later died of wounds in the South Pacific 1-13-1944. Emmett was 21. His mother was Anna W. Haake of St. Charles. Emmett is buried in St Charles at St Peter Catholic Cemetery.
Emmett is honored and remembered at the St. Charles County Veterans Museum on the Wall of Honor.
