Recently, St. Charles County Veterans Committee members Renee Essary and Jin Higgins had the privilege to meet with Jeff Bequette (teacher) and the Leadership Class at Fort Zumwalt South. Each year the class looks for volunteer opportunities in the community for a team project. The students conduct interviews, make a plan, and present the project details to the organization. The team of students then plans work days to complete the various projects.
The Fort Zumwalt Leadership Class is considering three or four projects for the St. Charles County Veterans Museum. The projects under consideration include:
The Dry Creek through the Grove
A Vietnam Memorial
An Archer Alexander Memorial
A Civil War Memorial
A Ralph Barrale Memorial
“We’re excited to have the community involved in the building of the museum” says Renee Essary, a nine year Air Force Veteran and Board Member. Essary continued, “We’ve built a list of Boy Scout / Girl Scout / Eagle Scouts and High School projects and hope many more volunteer groups will come forward. These projects represent a lasting memorial they can show their families, friends for many years to come.”
The St. Charles County Veterans Museum will open on April 12, 2019. It is located at 410 East Elm Street in O’Fallon.
